Yahoo - A Guide to WWW
(very inclusive
index). Note that this is not a Web search but search only of the Yahoo
index listings. Sites are listed generally by owner submission and
the site includes a wide spectrum of submissions.

Crawler (dead? 5/6/08) Cut through
the masses and lets you get straight to the favorite Web sites. This
is a great place to start for browsing a general topic and finding good sites.

My Virtual Reference Desk
is a great
place to look up something whether it's current events or or science
or language or some that might be on the Internet.

CyberStacks(sm) provides indexing
to web pages using the Library Of Congress classification scheme.

Internet Public Library provides links
to good sites and info similarly to a walk-in library.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) texts are available from Usenet
Newsgroups. Your questions may have already been answered here on many topics
or interests! If your question is likely a common question, this is
the place to look for an answer.

Consortium
in
hypertext format. Usenet news group frequently asked questions
library. Searches available. If more than a few people have an
interest in almost any topic, then there is a chance this library includes
info on your topic.

FAQ's by Usenet newsgroup organization
are at the standard repository at rtfm.mit.edu (by hierarchy works best if
you can get in).
