RFID

RFID - Radio Frequency Identification You've heard the term, but do you know the technology? Is it somehow related to barcode? Is it better? Having been around since the 1970's, RFID should be old news. But few people understand how it works and how it affects our lives.

Until recently RFID attracted little attention. Wal-Mart and the U.S. Department of Defense changed that in an instant when they announced their supplier mandates. Suddenly we knew that RFID tags would be on items we purchase every day.

RFID devices Today, RFID tags are all around us, in the library book, the fast-pay tag on your keychain, the ID tags worn by workers on base, the clothing you bought at the mall, even the chip implanted on the neighbor's dog.

Active or passive, intelligent or not, there is a form of RFID to fit just about any application. Even small businesses are able to afford the technology.

Lori Porter, Paxar's RFID Product Line Manager, will talk with us about RFID technology and the efforts Paxar has made to advance the technology.

Paxar provides smart tags and labels, RFID printer/ encoder solutions, bar code systems, and complete integration and maintenance services to industry leaders like Marks & Spencer, Del Monte Foods, and VF Corporation. They provide the industry's most reliable RFID products, including Monarch® brand, and the best service and support available.

All are welcome. The meetings start at 7:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome. Directions are here.

After the meeting, we'll enjoy pizza and conversation at the CiCi's Pizza in Beavercreek, behind Chili's and between Mall of India and the former OfficeMax store on the southeast corner of the intersection of North Fairfield and New Germany Trebein roads. See this Google map for approximate location. The Beavercreek CiCi's number is 427-2433.
