VOIP Video Phone

I once heard a story when cell phones first became popular. It seems that Leonard Nimoy was standing on a corner talking on his clam shell like cell phone when he was spotted by a trekker. The trekker broke down into peals of laughter at the site of “Mr. Spock” talking on his “communicator”.

It seems that technologies that only 30 years ago were thought of as being centuries away are here today. Not the least is the opportunity to not only speak to those who are far away but to see them as well. The Video Phone has been promised for ages and now with broadband internet, it is a reality.

Now, I'm not talking about a webcam and Skype or Yahoo messenger. No I'm talking about full VOIP service using a video device. Now you can see your loved one whether they are down the street or on the other side of the world.

Jeremiah Ilges, who so generously has offered DMA members a special deal on Clearwire (see page 13 of the May 2008 newsletter). Jeremiah is President and Acting Technology Coordinator of The Ohio Technology Group.

The Ohio Technology Group is a Microsoft Partner providing virtual Information Technology solutions for small and medium business. Founded in 2003 by Jeremiah Ilges, now the President of the board and the company's acting Technology Coordinator, we maintain our educational requirements within the company to ensure that our staff, even those at the top, can make the best choices for your business. As the virtual CIO (Chief Information Officer) for your business, The Ohio Technology Group takes the day to day management of your I.T. needs and leaves you to run your business.

We will also have a period of time set aside for questions and answers. So bring your knottiest technology questions and let the experts take a shot at them.

Next Month: Selling on eBay

Golden Oldies

Image: Golden turntable Also, did you know that the DMA is approaching a third century? We didn't until Gary Turner mentioned it. And he should know since he's been here for most of that time.

So to celebrate, we are planning a Thirty Three and a Third party. Details are to be finalized but the plan is for a picnic, perhaps pot luck, with DMA providing the hotdogs and hamburgers. We'll be looking for folks to help with the planning committee so if you are interested, let Gary know.

Reason for Changes

DMA Trustees have been struggling to provide adequate facilities for our monthly General Membership meetings. Both UD and WSU presented challenges. We have been searching for a location that is comfortable for our members, room enough for all attendees, offers free parking, equipped with audio, visual, and internet, and still affordable for the organization. HHAF Hall meets all qualifications. Apple-Dayton meets here regularly.

April was our trial month and it went well. We have reserved the Warrior Room for the coming year.

All are welcome. The meetings start at 7:00 p.m. Guests are always welcome.
