Don Corbet, AKA "The Linux Guy"

Don Corbet has been a Linux evangelist for a number of years, and has shared his knowledge of the "other" operating system with DMA members numerous times over the past several years, including seminars at Computerfest. “Don is an accomplished corporate senior executive, technical expert on Linux, Unix, Windows and other platforms, trainer, educator and public speaker. Mr. Corbet represents the ideal combination of "suit" and "tech". He is a member of the Board of the Linux Professional Institute and is a certified Linux cyber forensics specialist. He has received numerous corporate awards for his ground breaking work in customer satisfaction. He is a recognized presence and speaker at global Linux events, has hosted technical radio talk shows and was a columnist for a midwest computer publications. Mr. Corbet is a member of Who's Who in America. He founded D. L. Corbet & Associates, LLC in late 2002.”

Recently, Don has turned over daily operations of his company, D. L. Corbet & Associates, to his daughter, and has joined Red Hat Linux as a senior sales consultant. Don said he's sold enough Red Hat products over the years, so the position is a natural fit. During his presentation, Don will be showing off Red Hat's latest and greatest products, as well as discussing Ubuntu, another Linux distribution. There will be a Q & A period after the presentation, and perhaps a follow up session during the Pizza SIG at C's Pizza after the meeting.

If you've ever considered trying Linux, and want to know how, join us at the October DMA meeting and see what everyone's talking about!

C's Pizza has provided us with several gift certificates for our member-only raffle at the general meeting. We will probably try to distribute these over a couple of months.

Next Month: TBA

Golden Oldies

Image: Golden turntable Also, did you know that the DMA is approaching a third century? We didn't until Gary Turner mentioned it. And he should know since he's been here for most of that time.

So to celebrate, we are planning a Thirty Three and a Third party. Details are to be finalized but the plan is for a picnic, perhaps pot luck, with DMA providing the hotdogs and hamburgers. We'll be looking for folks to help with the planning committee so if you are interested, let Gary know.

Reason for Changes

DMA Trustees have been struggling to provide adequate facilities for our monthly General Membership meetings. Both UD and WSU presented challenges. We have been searching for a location that is comfortable for our members, room enough for all attendees, offers free parking, equipped with audio, visual, and internet, and still affordable for the organization. HHAF Hall meets all qualifications. Apple-Dayton meets here regularly.

April was our trial month and it went well. We have reserved the Warrior Room for the coming year.

All are welcome. The meetings start at 7:00 p.m. Guests are always welcome.
