RSS: Make the Web Come to You!

This month member Grant Root will describe RSS Feeds and why you might want to try using them.

Whether you call it Really Simple Syndication or Remote Site Summary, RSS is a simple tool for publishing and consuming information.

You can get started today on using a free RSS feed reader to help you keep track of your favorite blogs, comics, bands, friends, news sources and more. Instead of bookmarking and visiting dozens of web sites, pull your daily information fix together into one screen, view the headlines, and read what you want.

We'll also talk just a little about how you can use RSS formats to publish news items from your own web site, or re-publish items from other sites to add content to yours. We'll even briefly mention the P-word (podcasts), which are really just RSS feeds with fancy content.

Next Month: TBA

Golden Oldies

Image: Golden turntable Also, did you know that the DMA is approaching a third of a century? We didn't until Gary Turner mentioned it. And he should know since he's been here for most of that time.

So to celebrate, we are planning a Thirty Three and a Third party Saturday, September 12 at Thomas Cloud Memorial Park. Details are yet to be finalized but the plan is for a picnic, perhaps pot luck, with DMA providing the hotdogs and hamburgers. Tickets are $2 each in advance, or $5 at the event. We'll be looking for folks to help with the planning committee so if you are interested, let Gary know.
