Behind the Scenes

September 15, 2013 to November 2, 2014 | Conservation Gallery

Behind the Scenes, on view in the adjacent gallery to the Dallas Museum of Art’s Paintings Conservation Studio, highlights the materials and techniques used by the artists who created the works of art on view and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the ways in which they have evolved and possibly changed over time. In this inaugural installation of the Conservation Gallery, paintings from the DMA’s collection are displayed so that they can be viewed in the round, as three-dimensional objects. Although the important focus remains on their exceptional qualities as works of art, the reverse side of each painting reveals much about the artist’s choice of materials, as well as how the works have been cared for in the past.
