Events

All events listed on this page are held at 119 Valley St., Dayton, OH, unless stated otherwise. Our usual meeting time is 7 - 9 p.m. the second Tuesday and fourth Wednesday each month. All meetings are free and open to the public unless stated otherwise. Usually several of us adjourn to a local eatery to continue our discussions even more informally. See maps and cue sheets for directions.

We are currently studying for CompTia Linux+ certification, using CBT Nuggets Linux+ Certification Package, the 1st edition of the Sybex "Linux System Administration" book, by Vicki Stanfield and Roderick W. Smith, and SuSE 7.0 Personal.

Check out our new Invision Power Board forums.

We have over 40 individuals signed up for the Linux+ course. Most have picked up the book and software. Please bring the book only to the meeting. For those that have not picked up their materials I will have them at the meeting.

Don't worry we will fit in just fine. Some of the people will only be at the Tuesday meetings others only the Wednesday ones. So we will fit in 119 just fine.

We look forward to seeing you there where "those in attendance always learn something".

May 2003

May 13 2003 meeting

Want to earn the BIG bucks and have fun doing it?

Now that I have your attention. Linux is growing in popularity everyday in both the home but more importantly in the business and government IT departments. The more you know the more valuable you are to your employer but most of all yourself. Are you prepared? If not, you need to join DMAâ..s Certification SIG in May when we start our studies of the CompTia Linux+ certification.

At the May 13th meeting we will start our studies of the CompTia Linux+ certification. As we progress in our studies I hope to have some guest "trainers" from the Linux SIG to make learning more "fun". Several of the topics we will be covering include: Planning the Implementation, Installation, Configuration, Administration, System Maintenance, Troubleshooting, Identify, Install and Maintain System Hardware. For more information visit Comptia's Linux Certification Objectives to see the objectives we will be studying.

We have selected a book and boxed set of SuSE Linux 7.0 for each of you to follow along and learn. This version of Linux works on Pentium as well as the old 486 computers. I would suggest you install your Linux on a second hard drive (booting off of a floppy) or use a second computer until you get more acquainted with this operating system. We can assist you in getting this installed.

The cost of the book, Linux and 'shared cost' of the CBT is $20.00 per person.

I will have the books and Linux at the next two Cert SIG meetings, April 8 & 23, for those wanting to pick them up ahead of time. I do ask that those wanting to participate get in touch with me ASAP, email certsig@dma.org or call 667-3259, so I know how many books to order.

April 2003

April 23 2003 meeting

This will wrap up our Network+ series. The May 13 meeting will start the Linux+ series.
