December 2003December 2003 meetingNovember 2003November 2003 meetingLast month, we had a good discussion regarding Software Defined Radios that Mark Erbaugh, N8ME, suggested. We decided to study that topic further, so now you have 'homework'. Your assignment is to read the following articles. The first one will give you a good idea about the radio and some tech specs. The second gets into more of the theory. Don't fret this is not a college course, so we will not 'devour' the math.
As our meetings progress we will continue reading the other atricles on www.flex-radio.com - Article tab. As a child my desire was always to be able to design and build my own radio. With this project and 'course' of study, who knows I just might "make it". As of now we do have a topic for our next few meetings. If you have any ideas for future meetings pass them along. October 2003October 2003 meetingWe had a good discussion regarding Software Defined Radios that Mark Erbaugh, N8ME, suggested. We took a look at flex-radio.com and concluded we wanted to 'dig into' this much deeper. September 2003September 2003 meetingBruce Lundy KA8EDE opened his shack up for a demo of his home made crystal set he showed us at our April meeting. We also saw his VLF and Microwave 'stuff'. If you missed this meeting, visit Bruce's web site home.earthlink.net/~belundy for write-ups of some of his projects. August 2003August 2003 meetingJuly 2003July 2003 meetingJune 2003June 2003 meetingWe had an exciting meeting this week with field Day just a few weeks away and 'warmer weather' approaching. Steven Coy, K8UD, presented a video on building your own Yagi antennas. He distributed some handouts and displayed several antennas he has built. We also talked about Hamvention and what people thought and bought. Also if you know of any hamfest coming up bring the details and share. If you have any suggestions for future meeting please email or call me. May 2003May 2003 meetingApril 2003April 2003 meetingWe had Bruce Lundy KA8EDE & Ed Garner WR8A, talking about the exciting things they are doing with VLF, Microwave and a home made crystal set. Visit Bruce's web site. They both brought their crystal sets. See the May DataBus article about the meeting, with several pictures. At the most recent Pizza SIG, after the DMA General membership meeting, last Tuseday there was discussion of a possible fleamarket space at Hamvention(r). I need to know if you have any interest. This would be used to clean out your shack and promote our group. Let me know. March 2003March 2003 meetingAt our March 4th meeting we talked about the Rascal kits that were built last month and discussed setting up several working stations at Computerfest®, March 15 & 16. We would like to set up a booth with an HF station to do Digital communications and an Echolink. I hope you will plan on participating. February 2003February 2003 meetingWe will be doing a 'Build-it Project' at our February 4th meeting. Several of our members have expressed an interest in building the Dadio and Sound Card Audio Link (RASCAL) that Mark N8ME demoed at our December meeting. We are going to build the RASCAL kits we ordered from BuxComm at this meeting. Several people participated in a group buy on these kits. If you did not purchase a kit, please plan on attending and assisting in the 'fun'. Please remember to bring your hand tools and soldering irons. As we get them assembled we will be testing the recieve function of them, hopefully with a live reciever/anntenna. January 2003January 2003 meetingAt our Jan 7th, 2003 meeting Steve Coy, K8UD, demonstrated and explained the EchoLink program and other internet/amateur radio links. This is a way you, as a licensed Amateur, can use the internet to stay in touch with the world. This news from Dave Misek, N8NPX
December 2002December 2002 meetingAt the Dec meeting, Mark Erbaugh N8ME, give a presentation on using computer soundcards with ham radio. The presentation consisted of a presentation downloaded from www.westmountainradio.com and a demo using two computers and the interface cards. Mark passed around 3 of the interfaces he has. Mark's favorite interface is one he built from BuxComm, the Rascal - Radio Soundcard Audio Link. It comes as an assembled unit or as a kit. November 2002November 2002 meetingWe had the first meeting of the DMAŽ Amateur Radio SIG on Nov 5 with 9 Amateurs and 2 people interested in getting Licensed.
