President's Corner May 2003By Lisa Singh Last month we had a wonderful meeting with Microsoft. This month we are providing an opportunity for everyone to share some wisdom and for members to view some of the exciting programs that our SIG's provide. We will have an "Ask the Experts" accompanying the meeting so that any questions can be answered by experts in our panel or our audience. This is a great opportunity to get some of those questions answered. Our June meeting will host Intel and in July we will have a special WMUB on-site, on-air radio special. Details and time changes will be published in The DataBus and on our website: www.dma.org. Of course don't forget that we will also be having a great product raffle with a few extra prizes donated from our generous sponsors. This month's volunteer of the month is Mr. Randy Young. He has been recognized for his outstanding service to our organization, his willingness to be available at all times of the day and night, and for his unfailing service to both Computerfest® and OTAP. Last month the DMA® Board met in a special strategic planning meeting to address immediate planning needs for the next six months. Fundraising was the number one concern. Under fundraising, the needs recognized are: 1. Making Computerfest® more profitable, 2. Finding other fundraising streams of revenue, 3. Developing and supporting Gemair, and 4. Working with OTAP to improve intake and processing of donations as well as identify potential programs that can attract grant funds. I struggle with the issues of the organization, as do many of my colleagues and the Board as a whole. We realize that in spite of doing well compared to other nonprofit user groups in the nation, we also face challenges with a shrinking economy and the ability to maintain our streams of income. Currently we are exploring options to invest in our future. I certainly welcome anyone who would be interested in having a voice in this process. Anyone who is interested in helping us with strategic planning and/or developing programs that can add revenue to our organization, please contact me. Again, the address is president (at) dma.org. I would welcome the input and suggestions of any and all members. Thank you. I look forward to talking to you at the next DMA® meeting. |
