GEMAIR Looking for Volunteers

By John Friedenbach

GEMAIR is searching for volunteers with the necessary technical skills to assist us in putting together a New Setup CD.  This project could look extremely good on a technical resumé and may be a great way for underemployed IT pros to stay sharp.

The easiest way to do this (easy for me to say…) would probably involve using the Internet Explorer Administration Kit to install the latest I.E. version from CD and then using Visual Basic to detect and set up I.E. and Outlook Express for the user.  The downside of this is that it forces all users who install from the CD to use Internet Explorer.

Another option would be to use an HTML/JavaScript-drive set of menus to determine the user’s current default browser and then direct them either to an installation page to install the latest version of that browser or to a setup page with HTML setup instructions on how to configure their current browser.

Therefore, we need individuals who are skilled in either Visual Basic and/or JavaScript.  Any knowledge of the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) or the Netscape Client Customization Kit (CCK) would also be welcomed.
