Do you think Valley Street will be big enough for
the crowd once word of this gets out? A lot of people
will want to see this, I think.

Subject: [Amateur-SIG] HAM SIG Meeting September 5
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 5
7:00 at Valley Street
TOPIC: Windows Vista OS
Shawna Collins has been experimenting and learning about Vista for months as
part of her job at University of Dayton (UDit). She now has a copy of
Vista Ultimate -- the last beta before Mr. Gates launches this to the
masses.
She will show you what is different, and what is the same, and how it will
change your computing world. Will your amateur radio apps still work?
Research into that is being done. Is it better than XP or should I just
roll back to 98? That is for you to decide ...
She will also demo the new Office ... too many changes to diagram here, just
be prepared to be surprised!
This is an important meeting, because the Vista world is coming soon and in
true Microsoft fashion it will become the ubiquitous OS soon enough.
I will be giving an update on my lengthy (but coming along!) Winlink project
and recruiting help for the final push to a working system. Testers and
beta testers are the rule of the day as I determine how well it can handle
messages and how far my signal gets out. I will help you get started and if
there is enough interest we can have a configuration/testing/play sesssion.
Perhaps DMA Ham SIG can be the lead agency in getting the Miami Valley
equipped for packet and Winlink. Someday we are going to have our disaster
and I want to be ready!
See you there
Todd
