This weeks topic is Crossband Repeaters

President Emeritus George Ewing brought up an interesting topic .. How can
he crossband thru his vehicle when doing the football nets? Interesting
questions arise:
1. What equipment do you need? I am bringing Shawna's Alinco rig mainly
because I have never figured it out. But what if you do not have a
dedicated factory-ready repeat function?

2. What is the best freq settings for crossband thru a repeater. Any laws
or regs, or best practices?

3. How about single band repeating? Keep it all in 2 meters?

4. Sky Command, does anyone know if it is legal yet or not? I will bring
my Kenwood setup back again for experimentation or demo -- I am not good at
these settings so do not expect to learn much from me, but together we can
figure it out.

5. Junk box repeater building .. Can you build a repeater out of existing
radios? What keeps the RF out of the receive section? Two antennas maybe?
Multiplexers or duplexers or filters ... Anybody know anything about this
stuff? If you have a portable junk box with the appropriate cables to try
this out (and a radio you are ready to sacrifice to the smoke gods) maybe we
can lash up a system.

George may or may not be there (no pressure, honest!) but we will send him
the results and most likely come up with some useful info for our next
public service or disaster event. I bought Shawna the Alinco for Red Cross
shelter work so she could use her milliwatt HT inside the shelter and have
her repeater up on a roof or plugged into her car. We've never tried it but
it looks good on paper!

I also want to work on some topics for 2007 and get back on track with
building something or designing something -- some sort of goal for the group
that we can focus on and contribute to the ham radio community.

We will play for a while then bust out early and spend some time at the
restaurant of choice enjoying your favorite beverage and some food. Some of
the members may still have some discount coupons, bring them with if you are
still willing to share.

The DMA party is Tuesday night. If you are still interested in going I can
set aside your ticket. Call me on my cell MONDAY DAYTIME 937-545-7015.
Final count will most likely be at the board meeting on Monday night, so let
me know and you can reimburse me Tuesday or Wednesday. This is your last
chance to enjoy what was a pretty good event last year. Good food, good
company, and some door prizes! Tickets are 25 dollars per person.

R and L Electronics is having customer appreciation day this Saturday. I
will be heading down, anybody interested in car pooling let me know.
Probably get on the road earlier this year to actually see the reps. Figure
a departure around 9:30 from Kettering area. A good chance to maybe get a
deal on your new crossband mobile!

See you Tuesday night!
