Sinclair Parking - you have 3 options
1. park on the street FREE after 6 pm, but you will be fighting the students
for spaces
2. park in the garage on 5th street, $2.00, and walk through the overhead
tubes to building 1
3. park in my client's parking lot, FREE, on the SE corner of 4th & Perry
street, after 5:30 is best. Please put a sheet of paper on your dash with
the following: DMA HAM SIG then use the crosswalks to make your way to
building 1.

Mac, N8RXL, is our host and is opening up the Soldering Lab for our SIG to
learn how to properly solder surface mount components. Those of us that
purchased the Softrock 5 kits will be working on them. Those of you that
did not get the kit are very much encouraged to attend, as Mac will have
practice materials available for you to learn on.

The lab is available starting at 5 PM, some of you have expressed interest
in showing up at that time, thats fine. Others will arrive about our normal
starting time of 7 pm. The important thing is just show up regardless of
the time. All will learn from this opportunity.

I made an announcement at the last DMA General Membership meeting that
Channel 16 is willing to host our SIG at their location and explain what
HDTV is and how they put it together. There will also be a tour of the
'Tape Room' and Master Control where it all happens. Parking will be at your
expense. The Dayton Convention parking garage is above Channel 16. As I
email this, I know this meeting WILL NOT be on our normal meeting night.

If you have not heard yet, the DMA Board has announced there will NOT be a
General Membership Meeting on it's normal last Thursday in February - this
is due to a Special General Membership meeting on March 6th. Look for
details in the DataBus.

Please email me, mailto:ewingg at dma.org your opinion on the follow dates for
the Channel 16 tour:
  February 28th
  March 1
  March 13
  March 15
  March 27

And as always if you have any ideas for future meetings pass them along.

For more info send an email to k8dma at dma.org or call George Ewing, WD8NHI at
937-667-3259

All DMA SIG meetings are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

Subject: [Amateur-SIG] Softrock 5 Project - rescheduled

Softrockers,

It turns out that George has a conflict on this Saturday (2/4). I've not
received an overwhelming response for that date anyways. George, Mac (our
host at Sinclair) and I have discussed things and it turns out that next
Tuesday (2/7), which is our normal meeting night is available. We are
rescheduling for then. I know that this conflicts with our planned Hooters
Wings party, but that will be rescheduled for later.

Mac will have some practice boards available, so even those who aren't
building kits can get some surface mount practice. Surface mount is the way
of the future, already some parts are no longer available as through hole.
So if you plan on working on your newer equipment, you need to learn to work
with surface mount. There is also equipment available for soldering the
through hole parts on the kits, so there's no need to bring your iron.

The lab will be available from 5pm to 10pm so you are welcome to come early.
The lab is building 1, 2nd Floor, Room 23. George will be following up with
an email about free parking at one of his client's across the street. If
you do park at Sinclair, don't park under Building 12 (Ponitz Center). That
is reserved for corporate training. You can park in the Sinclair garage ($2
for non-students).

There still may be time to order a kit, though I don't know if they are
still available. Contact Tony Parks via email at raparks at ctcisp.com

73,
Mark
