January 2 2007

The holidays are just about over and the long cold winter is ahead of us! Well, sooner or later it may get cold ...

Sorry for the short notice, but 2007 is suddenly here! We do not have a formal topic or speaker for tomorrow night, but there are lots of small things going on that we can cover.

Discussion topics:

1. Does DMA Ham SIG want to have a presence at Hamvention? The theme this year is "clubs" and this is a good chance to get out in front the amateur radio community. Any ideas or thoughts about doing something this year?

2. Changes in the rules for digital communications and operating in general. Does anybody have a good grasp of what has changed, especially on 80 meters? I will bring some links and we can try to figure out what is the latest in rules and regs for digital comms. Plus the FCC dropping code.

3. A preview of the SW Ohio Digital Symposium.

4. Shawna will review some of the courses you can take to become a better Emcomm operator. This includes the Homeland Security courses, Red Cross courses, FEMA courses, ARES courses, etc. She has taken a lot of these and can help you come up with a plan for what you should take.

5. We can give you another Vista update, having tried it myself with some interesting results. Plus costs and upgrade paths are available, if we don't scare you off! And in keeping with her education theme, Shawna can show us some online courses for learning Vista and Office 2007.

We look forward to seeing you at Valley Street at 7:00. Bring your Christmas toys and be ready for show and tell!
