First off, for those of you who have been using this Winlink node, I apologize for the recent spate of technical difficulties. DP&L has been up to something, two or three times I have come home from work to find the VCR and Microwave blinking 12:00 and my Winlink station booted up to the Window login. A few times I have not noticed for a day or so and somebody sends me a message on the PBBS to let me know that the PC is off ... I see the mail light on the TNC and my heart sinks! I am now checking it every day after work.

This latest outage was thanks to a catastrophic hard drive failure; I switched to a backup PC and we are back on the air as of 10:30 pm Thursday.

Second, this is a great opportunity to play with packet and Winlink and become part of the revolution. My station blankets most of southern Montgomery County, Western Greene, down to Warren and even Hamilton (the big guns can hit me direct from 60 miles away, I have worked stations 80 miles away using a similar APRS set-up). Dig out your old packet gear or build a sound card packet station, download the free software from www.winlink.org, and give it a whirl!

The station is on 145.010 MHz and can be connected to by using the call sign N2TUN-10. You can even use a terminal to poke around. You can send and receive e-mails, or set up tactical nodes (think EmComm) and so long as I have power, you can send or receive e-mails to and from anyone through the Internet. Kind if like amateur SMS/e-mail, no browsing but when that tornado takes out the infrastructure or floods are sweeping through the valley, we will have communication!

You can also connect to my traditional packet BBS on the same frequency using N2TUN-7 as the connect, or use my station to connect to other stations relay style using N2TUN-9.

Point your antennas towards Stroop and Woodman, or closer yet, Indian Riffle Park (the new skatepark is right by my house). I will look for the flashing lights that tell my you are connected!

I hope to give a demo later this year at a DARA meeting or out at B Road. For more info or a little help feel free to e-mail.
