The Wireless Dayton Days project again will have a presence at the
CityFolk Festival. Volunteers are needed--but if you aren't able to
volunteer, please at least visit so when nature calls, Peter can take
a break.
The CityFolk Festival takes place this coming Saturday, Sunday and Monday,
July 1, 2 & 3.
The public hours of the City Folk Festival, as well as when the Wireless
demonstrations will take place, are: Saturday and Sunday 1 - 11 PM and
on Monday from noon to until the fireworks begin or at approximately
11:00 PM, whichever is later. Demonstrating volunteers will be asked to
arrive ½ hour earlier and leave ½ hour later than the public hours.
Volunteers will be needed for booth setup beginning at 10:45 AM Saturday
morning and for booth tear down on Monday evening after the fireworks,
as well as for intermittent wireless demonstrations. Volunteers are also
needed at other times to help with web site content. If you are able
to volunteer, please RSVP Peter Hess via email by using the address:
peter at gemair.com, so he can schedule for best talent participation.
The Wireless Dayton Days is a project of the Dayton Microcomputer
Association, Inc.. Again this year, DMA® volunteers will be demonstrating
Internet access via the Free downtown Dayton wireless network. The
upcoming CityFolk Festival is only the first demonstration of this year,
but after the contract is finalized between the City of Dayton and the
providers of the necessary WiFi technology, the DMA® has been invited
to participate in the expansion of the WiFi zone by demonstrating the
free service as it expands throughout the 55 square miles of the City of
Dayton. Other cities have also expressed interest in DMA®'s participation
as their communities tie into the WiFi Zone that the City of Dayton has
only begun developing.
Technical expertise is not necessary for one to participate in these
WiFi demonstration events, though volunteers with WiFi knowledge will
be most welcome. Those who are interested in participating, but do not
have WiFi technical expertise, will either be trained to their comfort
level, or will be able to direct interested parties to a WiFi trained
individual who will be readily available. All volunteers are encouraged
to surf the web via the Free wireless Internet access network while they
are waiting to answer CityFolk attendee questions.
For more information about the DMA®'s Wireless Dayton Days project,
please visit the web site http://www.wirelessdaytondays.org. For
more information about the Dayton Microcomputer Association, Inc.,
please visit http://www.dma.org. If you have any questions about this
volunteer opportunity, please email Peter Hess @ peter at gemair.com,
or call 937/296-9334.
While you are attending the 2006 CityFolk Festival, even if you are not
able to volunteer for this event, you are most welcome to stop by the
Wireless Dayton tent to say hello.
