Scrapbooking is something a Lot of family historians also do

DMA(r) is having our monthly meeting this Tuesday, October 25,
2005 at 7:30 PM at Wright State University in the Medical School
Auditorium. The topic this month is Scrapbooking, presented by Martha
Burtenshaw, area director of Creative Memories. See full details at
<www.dma.org/meeting-topic.shtml>.

Our Pizza SIG will be at the new CiCi's in Beavereek near the southeast
intersection of New Germany-Trebein and North Fairfield roads next to
OfficeMax behind Chili's. There are directions to the Medical School
building and links to maps at <www.dma.org/to-us-wsu.html#WSU>. A map
to CiCi's is at <www.snipurl.com/h6ck> - there's also a link to it at
the bottom of the meeting-topic page.

WSU has agreed to issue temporary parking permits for the regular
meetings on September 27, October 25, and the special meeting on
October 6. School is not in session during our November 29 meeting.
These permits cost two dollars each and are good for the entire fall.
In other words, two bucks gets you a parking pass for all meetings for
the
rest of the year. The alternative is to take a chance and park
illegally.

Here's how to obtain the parking permit:
* For the meeting, write "DMA" prominently on an ordinary 8½ X 11"
sheet
of paper. Stick it in your windshield wiper.

* When you get to the meeting, fill out an application outside the
Medical School Auditorium when you pick up your raffle ticket. Pay
your $2 at that time. We'll have hang tags for you.

* You cannot get the permit if you are a WSU student, faculty, or staff
member! You should have your own parking pass. All applications will
be
checked against the WSU student and employee data base.

* If UD is unavailable in the winter and we continue meeting at WSU,
you'll need to spend $2 for another temporary permit.

Although parking regulations are not enforced as stringently after 5:00
P.M., there is some enforcement. Two dollars is cheap insurance.

The PDF version of November issue of "The DataBus" is now available at
<www.dma.org/newsletters/2005.10.pdf>.

If you don't already have your membership card, you may get it at the
main meeting (or at many of the SIG meetings) to enjoy great discounts
at several local merchants. If you can't attend the meetings, get
your card by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Also of interest is the 17th Annual Fall Joint Meeting Miami Valley
Computing Societies Monday, September 26, 2005 at the David H. Ponitz
Center, Sinclair Community College. The topic this year is "Who's
Watching You(r Data) - Protection through Best Practices, Contracts,
and Legislation", presented by attorney Dino Tsibouris. Social Hour
starts at 5:30 pm, with dinner at 6:30 and the presentation at 7:30.
Dinner and the presentation is $20 and includes parking. Reservations
for dinner must be received by Tuesday, September 20 by Sandy Feola,
406 Grants Trail Dayton, Ohio 45459, or via <http://www.asqdayton.org>,
but no reservation is required to just attend the presentation. See
full
details at <www.asis.org/Chapters/soasis/mvcs>.

"In all of us is a hunger, marrow-deep, to know our heritage-to know
who we are and where we have come from. Without this enriching
knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments
in life, there is still a vacuum, and an emptiness, and the most
disquieting loneliness."
Alex Haley
