Greetings DMA Genealogy members:

Last time I forgot to mention that the Montgomery County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society (MCC-OGS) publishes a monthly newsletter for members.
This newsletter also has great Genealogy information, including many computer sites.

I also thought I should put out a reminder about the MCC-OGS meeting this Saturday.

I think the presentations provide many useful tips to aid in your search for ancestors.

The presentations at the meetings are especially helpful to me.
They present tips, tricks, hints, guidelines and other aids that I can use in my own research.
It is better to see samples and pictures than to just read an article on the subject.
These presentations are sometimes very helpful in getting around a roadblock in your research.

The meeting starts with a short presentation topic at 1:00 pm.
Next is a business meeting that normally lasts about 20 minutes.
Then 10 minutes of cookies and coffee.
The main topic usually starts at about 2:00. It lasts approximately 1 hour.
The meetings are in the second floor auditorium of the main library (Dayton Metro Library) in downtown Dayton ( 215 E. 3rd st ).

(You do NOT have to be a member to attend the meetings).

I will be presenting a very visual slide show on "Using Maps in Genealogy Research" at the August 12 meeting.
This presentation will use A LARGE number of map samples and how they can assist you in your research.
The emphasis will be on:
how the maps can lead to new locations to search for records,
how the maps can help narrow down a large search area,
how and where maps can be found and bought.
If time permits;
I will present online sources of maps,
how to read the maps to find locations and
what to look for when buying a map.
