Appalachian Research by Dick Gault
West Virginia, Southeastern Ohio, Eastern Kentucky, Southwestern Virginia, and Northwestern North Carolina -- what do these areas have in common? The Appalachian Mountains, an area many of our ancestors traversed to move west. Appalachian genealogical research can be difficult compared to other geographical areas. Dick will explain the ancestral backgrounds of the early settlers in this region and discuss migration routes.
Dick Gault, a Genealogist and Historian with 27 years experience, will discuss Appalachian research at our October meeting. Dick was raised in Butler County, Ohio where he graduated from Edgewood High School. He is a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Military Police. He has three daughters and one son, one granddaughter and one on the way, and three grandsons. Besides having taught Adult Education classes and Seminars for Genealogy, Dick maintained the Archives at Butler County in the 1990's. He is related to five U.S. Presidents and six Mayflower passengers.

Using Technology To Enhance Digital Images and Make Biographies More Interesting by Dana Palmer
Dana will focus on two things in her presentation. First, she will discuss how to use some of the basic features of Adobe Photoshop to enhance digital pictures, and she will describe briefly how to convert old photographs and slides to digital images using a scanner. Second, Dana will show how to import these images into Microsoft Word to make stories and biographies more interesting.
Having been interested in family history since a young child, Dana Palmer is an active researcher, using genealogy computer programs, since 1984. As an avid genealogical researcher, her areas of expertise include U.S., British Isles, Denmark, LDS records, cemetery records, technology, digital images, and scrapbooking. Dana is Vice President of the Warren County Genealogical Society (WCGS). She designed and created the WCGS webpage in 2002. Dana is writing several genealogically-oriented family books and is co-author of a cemetery book to be published in Spring 2006.
