ITEMS FROM THE OGS-MCC MEETING:

The Genealogy SIG Chair attended the August monthly meeting of the OGS-MCC and got permission to announce the existence of the DMA Genealogy SIG. An invitation was proffered regarding the above mentioned Software Demo Night. Several people were interested and will likely attend our meeting that night, one of them will be demonstrating Roots Magic. Several members of the audience (about 55) were quite familiar with the DMA and commented favorably on it.

Mr. Dave Vickers offered to come over and talk to the SIG sometime. He is a real computer guru. I will arrange to get him into our schedule; he always has a lot of interesting computer-astute comments to offer.

The presentation at the OGS-MCC meeting was very interesting; the subject was The Federal Census, State Census and Other Non-scheduled Censuses, by Pam Wolosz. It should be posted on the website soon. (There are several other earlier presentation posted there that SIG members would likely find interesting and possibly relevant to your own research. I suggest you take a look.)

FORTHCOMING EVENTS OF INTEREST

- Dayton Liederkranz-Turner will be sponsoring a Genealogy Workshop on German Heritage, Saturday, August 18, 2007 in the Dayton Public Library Auditorium at 1:00 PM. Special Guest Speaker: Mike Kennedy.

- OGS-MCC September Meeting (September 8, 2007) will have a guest speaker on Timelines - A Tool for Organizing and Understanding Your Data. This will also be at the Dayton Public Library Auditorium at 1:30 PM. This presentation will be made by Mr. Mike Kennedy, a member of the local chapter.

A timeline is a viewing tool and a memory tool. It is a way of organizing multiple facts into a picture of events and their proper order. This order helps to organize your thoughts and research plans. Once your thoughts are organized, you are better able to spot problems and to see new possibilities of research. The speaker will show how a timeline can assist the researcher from the start of a project to the publication of the final results.
