NEWS
Did you hear about the new Ancestry.com Immigration Database that has been put on-line? Naturally, with all the hub-bub of the holidays, I have lost track of all my references to just what is contained in it; but I did finally remember about it and got on to try it out during the last three days of the free trial. And I think I had a wonderful success.
The database, best as I remember, contains records all the way back to the 1700's when ships were bringing over immigrants from the Old World to America; it contains the files from Ellis Island and its predecessor(s) location (the name of which escapes me; something Gardens). The site lists a number of ports: Baltimore, New York, Boston, Raleigh, New Orleans, etc. You can search by name, surname, ship, port of departure, port of arrival or date.
I believe it was supposed to be on-line for the entire month of December for free. I forgot about it until December 28. I went to check it out and try looking for a relative that has been undiscovered as long as I can remember. I found them (it appears) in less than two hours. I shared the information with my other relatives that have been searching for them for years. They agreed that this was probably the family; but, like always in genealogy, there are now more questions. No one knows if the whole family came over together or in separate trips. So, the questions are: "Who is Gotlieb?", "Where is Michael? And, where is Chush?" "Where did they go and what did they do after they got off the ship?"
