Notes from July Genealogy SIG Meeting
The Genealogy SIG met on July 5th, the next day after the Fourth of July celebrations. Attendance was down a bit, probably because members were still celebrating. At the previous meeting in May, it was agreed that we should have a meeting on 5 July; and so we did. The Chairman was out-of-town for the June meeting which was postponed to July.
Setting up a date with Wright State University's Anatomical Gift Program has been unsuccessful. Dr. Nagy suggested that June was not working out and that we should just plan to meet in July. Bottom line is: we have not been able to get together.
An old Software Development SIG is being resurrected again with a meeting planned for 14 July (Thursday), the next week after ours.
There was some discussion of members out of work and others that had found jobs. Some are now working in computer related jobs.
Discussions turned to the state of DMA and future directions (rumors abound) with the intent of putting more life and public exposure back into DMA programs. Gary Ganger is looking for a volunteer to help him at the Dayton Air Show with the Computer Museum displays. This led to discussions of where the Genealogy SIG should be going and it was agreed that the August meeting should be devoted to setting up a program for the coming year (beginning in September).
A tour of the OTAP (Ohio Technology Access Project) facilities in the basement of Headquarters was offered and gladly accepted. This was eye-opening for newer members that had never seen the resources available at DMA. This was the highlight of the evening.
NEXT MEETING: 2 August 2007 (Thursday) at 119 Valley St. at 7 PM. Bring some ideas for genealogy things we can pursue/do/acquire/review/visit, etc.
Sorry if this is a bit later than normal in posting. I will try to do better.
