Canon has jumped from the S3 IS to the S5 IS, skipping the S4 IS.
It's expected to be available in July for about $500. See
<www.dpreview.com/news/0705/07050703canons5is.asp> for details.
Briefly, the changes are:
* 8MP up from 6MP for the S3 IS and 5MP for the S2 IS)
* 2.5" articulated LCD (up from 2" for S3 IS & 1.8" for S2 IS)
* Hot Shoe (new with S5 IS) compatible w/ Canon EX Speedlite flashes
* Digic III image processor for faster operation. Includes advanced
Noise Reduction technology and Face Detection for stills and movies
(improves focus & exposure for faces)
* In-camera red eye reduction
* ISO up to 1600 (S3 went up to 800 & S2 only to 400)
* Long-play VGA movie mode
It still uses 4x AA batteries and has the same 12x optical zoom
(36-432mm 35mm equivalent) as the S2 & S3 IS. It uses SD or SDHC cards.
