Bryan,
I'm the overall Mailman list owner. The Software-Development list owner was
Keith Wire. I found messages dating back to last October still in the
moderation queue. I've cleaned up the queue and added myself as a moderator so
the queue shouldn't back up more than half a day. Obviously someone else needs
to take over that position. I'm not an active member of this list, although I
am subscribed to it.
It's an easy job. Whenever a message arrives that requires moderation, the
owner(s), and moderator(s) if there are any, will receive an e-mail indicating
that a message is awaiting approval or deletion from the queue. There will be
a link in the message to the moderation web page. You will need to provide a
password to enter, which I'll supply to whomever chooses to accept the job.
Once you have logged into the moderation page, you will see a few choices for
each message awaiting moderation. Most are pretty obvious, but some may not be
unless you've moderated a list before.
By default, whenever a new member subscribes, we automatically set a moderation
flag for that user. That means that his/her messages will require moderator
approval before being accepted. When a message from such a user appears, an
additional option is shown - clear this member's moderation flag. Assuming the
message is appropriate for the list, I usually clear the flag after receiving
the first message from a new user.
So, would anyone care to volunteer to own or moderate this list? Owning the
list involves a lot more, including the ability to add or remove members, as
well as many other options. Moderating involves only approving or disapproving
messages. I'll be glad to demonstrate the process for anyone who might be
willing but doesn't know how to do it yet.
