Tom Angleberger

Saturday, April 12, 11:30 a.m.
Location: Horchow Auditorium

Art + Science Festival

Tom Angleberger is an artist-turned-writer known for his explosively popular Origami Yoda series. The story follows sixth grader Dwight, who creates an origami finger puppet of Star Wars Jedi Master Yoda, which then comes to life and gives him advice that always seems to work (and may even predict the future). The fifth book, Princess Labelmaker to the Rescue, will be released this March and will continue with the war against the Dark Standardized Testing Forces. In 2013, he published Art2-D2’s Guide to Folding and Doodling: An Origami Yoda Activity Book. Before combining origami and Star Wars, Angleberger was a columnist for the Roanoke Times in Roanoke, Virginia. He says that Asperger’s is his superpower. He is married to author-illustrator Cece Bell and lives with her, their two kids, and three dogs in an old church in Virginia.

In addition to his presentation, Angleberger will lead a workshop demonstrating his process and encourage people of all ages to make their own origami creation.

“I’m not necessarily all that creative. I’m more of a puzzle putter together. I take all these little puzzle pieces—Yoda, middle school problems, Cheetos—and I fuss and fuss with them until I fit them together.” —Tom Angleberger

The Art + Science Festival is the culmination of Arts Week in Dallas, which is hosted by the Dallas city mayor. The Dallas Museum of Art will host the festival in partnership with the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.
