Construction (and education) in progress
Hi. My name is Tim Backstrom. I am currently living in Broomfield, CO.
My hometown is Auburn, Massachusetts, home of liquid-fueled rocketry.
I joined the USAF in August 1983, and went through basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. From Texas, I was schooled in my trade at Lowery AFB, Colorado. I have been stationed at Offutt AFB, Nebraska; Zweibrucken AB, Germany; Pease AFB, New Hampshire; Holloman AFB, New Mexico; Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom, and Fairchild AFB, WA. While I was stationed at Holloman AFB, I was deployed to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with the 4401st Air Postal Squadron from January to July 1991 in support of Desert Shield / Desert Storm. I retired from active duty on 1 September 2003.
My hobbies are motorcycles, downhill skiing, electronics, computers, my stereo and a fan of many forms of auto and motorcycle racing. I am currently a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) on Windows 2000 and XP/2003. I'm working on getting my MCSE specialization in Security on XP/2003.
I'm currently working in the Tier II Helpdesk at IBM in Boulder. If anyone is looking for a Microsoft Desktop or Server Support Tech in the Denver-Boulder area, be sure to drop me an email at "backstro at dma.org".

1) Gore presents Mt Kilimanjaro's melting snows as proof of global warming. In fact, the snows are vanishing thanks to local factors, including deforestation.
2) Gore suggests Antarctica's ice cover is melting. Most studies says it is increasing or stable.
3) Gore shows scary graphics of cities drowning in seas that rise 7m, causing millions of refugees. But the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says the seas will rise at worst by 59cm this century.
4) Gore uses images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests it was caused by global warming. The Government's expert in this case admitted such one-off events can't be blamed on warming.
5) Gore suggests ice-core evidence shows rising CO2 caused temperature rises, which ended the past seven ice ages. In fact, the CO2 rises followed temperature rises by 800 to 2000 years.
6) Gore claims global warming could stop the Gulf Stream, causing an ice age in Europe. Recent studies deny it.
7) Gore blames global warming for species losses and coral reef bleaching. The Government couldn't show evidence to back this claim.
8) Gore claims a study showed polar bears had drowned because of vanishing ice. The study actually said just four polar bears drowned, and only because of a bad storm.
9) Gore suggests Greenland's ice could melt, causing a dangerous rise in sea levels. In fact, Greenland's ice won't melt for thousands of years.
10) Gore shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims this was caused by global warming. The Government's expert agreed this was not the case.
11) Gore claims rising seas have forced people to flee Pacific islands to New Zealand. There is no record of any such warming-caused evacuation.
Where are you going after you turn your country Communist?

17 July 2008: Gotta love the hypocrisy of the Socialists! Do you remember how everyone on the left were up in arms over Valerie Plame being "outed", and her cover was broken? How come it's all A-OK for "the Pravda of the East Coast", the New York "Lies" to do the same to CIA interrogator Deuce Martinez in this article dated 22 June 2008?
"WASHINGTON — In a makeshift prison in the north of Poland, Al Qaeda’s engineer of mass murder faced off against his Central Intelligence Agency interrogator. It was 18 months after the 9/11 attacks, and the invasion of Iraq was giving Muslim extremists new motives for havoc. If anyone knew about the next plot, it was Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.
The interrogator, Deuce Martinez, a soft-spoken analyst who spoke no Arabic, had turned down a C.I.A. offer to be trained in waterboarding. He chose to leave the infliction of pain and panic to others, the gung-ho paramilitary types whom the more cerebral interrogators called “knuckledraggers.”
It seems the "Lies" decided themselves to name him, despite a CIA request not to.
"The Central Intelligence Agency asked The New York Times not to publish the name of Deuce Martinez, an interrogator who questioned Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and other high-level Al Qaeda prisoners, saying that to identify Mr. Martinez would invade his privacy and put him at risk of retaliation from terrorists or harassment from critics of the agency.
After discussion with agency officials and a lawyer for Mr. Martinez, the newspaper declined the request, noting that Mr. Martinez had never worked under cover and that others involved in the campaign against Al Qaeda have been named in news stories and books. The editors judged that the name was necessary for the credibility and completeness of the article."
5 May 2008: Writer Stephen King joins the John Kerry brigade by declaring if you can't read "then you've got, the Army, Iraq, I don't know, something like that." I'm glad there's a lot better authors out there than King will ever be.

20 Sept 2005: Good information for any U.S. military personnel stationed in the European Union. Personal FM transmitters, ie. iTrips and the like, used to listen to music players through your FM radio especially in your car are illegal in the entire E.U.
24 July 2005: If you are still using WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption on your wireless network, this shows how easy it is to break into your network. I upgraded my wireless network a couple months back to WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) encryption. WPA is more secure, but can be attacked with a dictionary attack. So, if you do decide to upgrade your wireless network to WPA, set the pass phrase with upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols for the best security.
10 July 2004: If you're like me and hate to install QuickTime and RealPlayer on your computer, you might want to try QuickTime Alternative and RealPlayer Alternative. Both work really well, and don't put all the other garbage associated with the official versions on your system.

Upgraded the old Fujitsu MHE2064AT
6.4GB hard drive that came stock with the 1250 with an IBM Travelstar 20GN DJSA-220
20 GB drive I got from Computergeeks.com
for $109. Had to run Disk
Manager 2000 to get the drive recognized by the old BIOS. It's max capacity
was 8.4 GB. A lot faster loading now, and a lot more room to boot.
Sidenote: When I first unpacked the drive I noticed a rattle. According
to this document,
this is caused by a latch to secure the heads when unloaded.
Current Compaq Presario 1250 Configuration:
CPU: AMD K6-III+ / 394 MHz (Running CTU under Windows 98SE to turn
on and optimize on-chip cache)
Memory: 160 MB (32 (on-board) + 128)
Hard Drive: IBM DJSA-220 20 GB (Need to run Disk Manager 2000 to correct
BIOS limitation of 8.4 GB)
Original Configuration:
CPU: AMD K6 / 300
Memory: 64 MB (32 + 32)
Hard Drive: Fujitsu MHE2064AT 6.4 GB
