Moss
Motors Miata Trunk Light Kit
Part
# 159-970
Installation
Instructions
- Assemble light
unit into bracket by snapping into rectangular hole, with electrical connectors
pointing to the left side as shown. Install bulb by spreading contacts, and
connect red wire to upper connector and black wire to lower connector.

- Open
trunk and install Moss Trunk Light unit into aperture on the inside of the
trunk lid on the right (passenger’s) side. Insert 5mm bolt with lock and flat
washer through existing hole in trunk lid and screw into threaded hole in
light bracket. Tighten securely with 8mm wrench. Route new wiring harness
along factory wiring using existing clips on inside of trunk lid. Use plastic
tie-wraps to secure wiring at factory installed attachment points as shown
in illustration. New wiring will follow factory installed wiring path all
the way to the right rear taillight. New wiring will then attach to battery
clamp bar and divide to go to new light switch and positive + battery clamp.

- First!
Disconnect the NEGATIVE - battery cable (it is usually black with a yellow
stripe), then unsnap the soft terminal cover from the POSITIVE + battery cable.
Remove the clamp bolt and nut from the Positive battery clamp and insert the
bolt through the eye terminal of the red wire from the wire harness. Reinstall
the clamp bolt with its nut back on the battery clamp and reconnect to the
battery. Then reconnect the Negative battery terminal connection. Tuck the
inline fuse beside the battery and secure the soft battery cover over the
battery.

- Locate
the lower right corner of the trunk inner lip; the "footprint" that the rubber
bumper attached to the trunk lid makes. It should appear as a faint bull’s
eye. Locate the approximate center and drill a 1/4" hole to mount the switch.
To install the switch, remove the top nut and washer, then screw the bottom
nut and washer approximately 3/16" from the top down the threaded body. Insert
the switch through the aperture in the inside corner of the trunk and up through
the new 1/4" hole you drilled, Install the remaining washer and nut. Tighten
the nut securely with a 10mm wrench. Insert the bullet end of the black wire
into the connector on the end of the switch. The Moss Trunk Light should now
light. If it should fail to illuminate, recheck all connections. Push down
all of the way on the Switch plunger and make sure that the end of the switch
or the bullet connector does not contact the edge of the metal body. If it
does contact the edge, bend the edge out of the way with a pair of pliers.
Replacement bulbs are available as Part # 170-010.
