Bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize winner Doris Kearns Goodwin's new book Leadership in Turbulent Times is a culmination of five decades of work in presidential history. In today’s polarized world, stories of authentic leadership in times of apprehension and fracture take on a singular urgency. Goodwin combines her signature storytelling with essential lessons from four of our nation’s presidents: Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson. Guided by a sense of moral purpose at moments of great challenge, all were able to summon their talents to enlarge the opportunities and lives of others.

Goodwin’s interest in leadership began more than half a century ago as a teacher at Harvard, followed by her experiences working for LBJ in the White House and later assisting him with his memoirs. She wrote the Pulitzer Prize–winning No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor and the Home Front in World War ll, and earned the Lincoln Prize for the runaway bestseller Team of Rivals, the basis for Steven Spielberg’s award-winning film Lincoln.

“After five decades of studying presidential history, examining these four men through the lens of leadership allowed me to discover so many new things about them that I felt as if I was meeting them for the first time. Their stories have provided me a lifetime of joy as an historian and continue to be a source of great inspiration.”—Doris Kearns Goodwin
