"Broadway or Bust"
Tim Federle was born in San Francisco, grew up in Pittsburgh, and crashed New York auditions as a teenager, landing in five Broadway shows. His adventures on Broadway inspired his debut novel for kids, Better Nate Than Ever.
The Huffington Post hailed it as “Judy Blume as seen through a Stephen Sondheim lens—with a dash of Lewis Carroll whimsy.” The book follows Nate Foster, who has wanted to star in a Broadway show his whole life (heck, he’d settle for seeing a Broadway show). But how is Nate supposed to make his dreams come true when he’s stuck in Jankburg, Pennsylvania? When Nate learns that there is an open casting call for E. T.: The Musical, he plans a daring overnight escape to New York—this could be the difference between small-town blues and big-time stardom. Better Nate Than Ever was named a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice, a Publishers Weekly Flying Start, and an Amazon Best Book of 2013 (So Far), and is nominated for a YALSA “Best Book for Young Adults.”
His newest book, Five, Six, Seven, Nate!, picks up where Better Nate Than Ever leaves off. Armed with a one-way ticket to New York City, Nate is off to start rehearsals for E.T.: The Musical. It’s everything he’s ever practiced his autograph for! But as thrilling as Broadway is, rehearsals are nothing like Nate expects: full of intimidating child stars, cutthroat understudies, and a director who can’t even remember Nate’s name. Now, as opening night ticks closer, Nate may need a showbiz miracle.
